We spent one sweltering hot day after another shoveling mud and the contents of our broken community curbside. The many unknowns and sorrow caused so much anxious energy that I knew I had a to find a place for it. In the evenings, just before curfew, my wife and I would stand in front of our severely damaged home and watch the sunset. At least there was beauty among the chaos and the many uncertainties.
